World Development / Global Issues

-------------------------------------------

CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development)

Web: www.cafod.org.uk

Official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities which include campaigning on issues such as debt, trade and justice.

-------------------------------------------

Christian Aid

Web: www.christian-aid.org.uk

We don’t hug trees, we don’t wear sandals and only a few of us have beards. But we do make change happen- both on the grounds and in the plush offices of powerful international institutions. We work through local organisations to deliver direct, practical benefits, and we campaign to challenge the causes of poverty.

-------------------------------------------

Oxfam

Web: www.oxfam.org.uk

Oxfam GB is a development, relief, and campaigning organisation dedicated to finding lasting solutions to poverty and suffering around the world. They believe that every human being is entitled to a life of dignity and opportunity; and work with poor communities, local partners, volunteers, and supporters to help this become a reality.

Generation why: do what you love doing – just change the world while you’re doing it Oxfam has loads of opportunities for you to get involved – from sports to club nights, and from volunteering at festivals to campaigning.

As well as relying on volunteers in its shops Oxfam has a national and regional offices which need volunteer support.

-------------------------------------------

War on Want

Web: www.waronwant.org/

Campaigns against world poverty and regularly involves volunteers in its campaigning work.

-------------------------------------------

World Development Movement (WDM)

Web: www.wdm.org.uk

WDM's campaigns tackle the root causes of poverty. They work with people in the developing world to change the policies of governments and business that keep people poor. Their London and Edinburgh offices are partially staffed by volunteers, and there are many local groups to get involved in.
