Name: Martin Leggett
Position: MYP
Constituency: Bedford Borough
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Youth service cuts because the activities and advice provided are vital to many young people. Also, though a bit dry, I wish that governments were more responsible with their spending because it’s our generation that will have to pay the debts off.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
A local survey we conducted highlighted a combination of not enough affordable things to do and a fear of crime.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I’m not really on a personal crusade; I will judge my success by how faithfully I represent the views of the young people in my constituency.
What is your future career ambition?
Not sure yet, hopefully university next year then maybe politics or journalism.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Prince Charles for his work with and motivation of young people.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
When cutting, think more about what is important for the future (e.g. education and youth services!!!) than what is popular now. The present is only a moment, the future will last forever!
