Name: Emma Fletcher
Position: MYP
Constituency: Sutton

Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I'm very passionate about medical research as it helps cure millions of people on a day to day basis. I also think that the money put it into global warming is very unwise and think the money could be better spent on the millions of starving people in the world today. I feel that young people are highly unrepresented by politicians and the media.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
In Sutton, crime levels are low, but the perception of crime is very high. Also, the fact that there isn't enough for anyone in Sutton to do at the weekends, so they end up travelling further afield to either Kingston or Croydon.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to help lower the perception of crime so people are not worried about being in their local area. Also, to find more things for young people to do at weekends. This includes Sutton Youth Parliament's Youth Café plan and under-18 nights at local night clubs.
What is your future career ambition?
I actually intend to carry out a career in medicine, as I aspire to be a pediatrician in later life. I'm doing my time as a politician now while my ideas are fresh!
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I don't. I think it's better to have your own ideas, and not dream to be someone else - as you can only be the best you can.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Put more money in to the NHS. If you can afford to bail out the banks, why can you not afford to put money into specialist health care units?
