Name: Victoria Monro

Position: MYP

Constituency:
Redbridge

--------------------------------------------------------

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

Mainly, the lack of opportunities with regards to work experience etc for local youth. I believe it’s really important that we enable today’s young people to gain experience in fields they may consider for careers – this is something that I know has affected several people and being in year 12, I’m aware of how important it is.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

Redbridge could benefit from greater facilities, and/or a greater awareness of the available facilities. I would like to make people more aware of what they have got in the borough, whilst wanting to find out what they feel they are missing.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

1) Make people more aware of the NUS Card and the UCAS Card, both of which allow the holders discounts at local shops.

2) To provide schools with information regarding firms/businesses in Redbridge that allow or would allow work experience.

What is your future career ambition?

To become a financial consultant, before eventually being an MP and then finally reaching the natural conclusion of… PM!

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

I admire people like Joanna Lumley, who are prepared to stand up and fight for their views, irrespective of the repercussions; people who are happy to help others and go to great lengths to do this.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

They make life difficult for young people. Mandelson’s proposals for cuts to the budget for higher education, as the NUS said, would do “irreparable damage”. It’s true. Education is something to be encouraged.
