Name: Katrina Sugden
Position: MYP
Constituency: Sunderland
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Like many young people I am very passionate about lowering the voting age, but all of my constituents and my political issues are based around equality and fairness.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
The biggest issues for the young people in my area are based around education. Facilities for schools, the way in which funding is given via Building Schools for the Future (BSF), transport for students and Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to achieve better student transport in my area, and highlight the issues of unfairness in EMA, the voting age and BSF.
What is your future career ambition?
I currently study Christian theology, History and Politics at A-level and hope to continue my studies into university. Like most young people I am still undecided what I’m going to end up doing though.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Role models are sometimes hard to come by today, but I admire anyone who is passionate and fights for justice.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Don’t cut spending on education please! Because it is everything to the young people today and we are the future!
Additional comments:
I love that today the youth have a chance to be advisories and are given the chance to really have a voice. I have a voice and it’s a canny loud one, I just hope I will be the perfect mouth piece for my constituents.
