Name: Ian Goley
Position: MYP
Constituency: Sefton
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I believe it is a fundamental right that every person should have an equal pportunity within their own society; whether this is simply whilst out and about, in education, in sporting activities, basically in all aspects of life.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
In my constituency I believe that the views of young people need to be listened to at a higher level, and acted upon. I also believe that young people are entitled to equal opportunities, especially within the media. A desire of mine is to see many more people participating in sport.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
In my term of office I realise I am not going to change the lives of all the young people in my constituency, I am however going to strive to give young people in my constituency a more powerful voice, and a greater say in decisions that are taken.
What is your future career ambition?
I have a desire to become a politician, ultimately working as an MP in Westminster. I believe that politics has a major impact upon peoples’ lives, and I want the opportunity to represent people, make their voices heard and to act upon their wishes. I believe that by becoming a politician I can maximise my potential in serving the community.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
David Miliband, Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. I think that David Miliband is a charismatic politician and is continuing to serve our country in a positive way. The way he addresses all members of society and his diplomatic approach to world leaders is fundamental to the progression of the UK.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
If I was limited to one message for Gordon Brown’s government it would be please do not let allegations of MPs’ expenses disrupt the working of your government in doing the job that you have been democratically elected to do. Every day that goes by people are being affected by the recession; please make sure that any cuts in public spending are as non-detrimental as possible.
Additional comments:
I understand that members of the public may be frustrated by MPs and their expenses; the vast majority of MPs are not corrupt, and they are working hard to represent their constituency and to do their job to the best of their ability.
