Name: Ellie Vesey-Thompson
Position: MYP
Constituency: Wiltshire
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Improving health, relationship and sexual health education and facilities available to young people, improving public transport facilities available- especially in more rural communities, increasing the level of political education available through schools and colleges.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Transport facilities, both the cost and quality of the services and the frequency of most routes.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
Getting more young people involved in sports and activities at Leisure Centres etc. Finding ways to improve transport facilities, especially for those travelling for education purposes. To show young people that they can get their voices heard, and that if they are passionate about something there are ways in which they can make a change. And to improve the image of young people in the wider community.
What is your future career ambition?
To become a Barrister, possibly in family or criminal law.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Cheryl Cole. She is a fantastic example setter for young girls; polite, classy, and above all independent and individualistic. She has shown the world that she, like other women, doesn’t need a man to survive, she can get by perfectly fine alone, and that through hard work and pursuing your dream, you can achieve a lot. She is successful in both her solo career and as a band member. She also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with a group of other celebrities to raise money for charity.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Most young people do care, but often feel like they aren’t listened to. The Government should realise that young people are equally important, and in a few years time will be the people they need votes from. They should take on board what we’re saying and realise that this is actually likely to be beneficial for them.
