Name: Emma Nelson
Position: MYP
Constituency: Telford & Wrekin
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Recently I have become a lot more passionate about political issues such a climate change and fossil fuel consumption, teenage pregnancy and sex and relationship education, and child poverty in the UK.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
In my constituency at the moment I feel the biggest issue is transport and transport costs, although the bus company is being looked into I think a lot more needs to be done to get more young people using buses instead of cars.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to achieve firstly better bus routes that take less time and cost less; producing a magazine to be distributed in schools written by young people for young people; and doing work in the national campaigns.
What is your future career ambition?
I don’t really know! I’m hoping to do physics, maths, history and government politics at A level, then maybe go on to do a physics course at university and do a PhD. But I also want to go into politics, so I’m really not sure at the moment!
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
So this is where people talk about really famous people. For me the public figure I admire most is my dad. Admittedly he's only a small town councillor but he was the one who told me to go for the position of MYP, and I guess he's shown me you can never be too old to make a positive change; and however small it is at least you've done something to improve things for other people.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
There is a lot I would like to say to the government! I think I’d say to start actually doing something to lessen oil consumption, people still use plastic bags why haven't they been gotten rid of completely? It was that long ago that everyone used paper bags, so I’d tell them to actually make a change. When the oil is gone, it's gone.
