Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most passionate about concessionary travel for young people. I feel strongly that concessionary travel cards should be made available to all young people aged 11 to 18 across the UK. In addition to this, I would like to see improved youth engagement provision on a local, regional and national scale.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
The issue consistently raised in my constituency is public transport. In Warwickshire, there is huge variation in the quality, frequency and cost of services between one district and another. The issue is currently being addressed by Warwickshire County Council after lobbying from VOX, our County Youth Council and the Members of Youth Parliament in Warwickshire.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
Ideally in my term of office, I would like to see the implementation of a concessionary travel card for young people across Warwickshire. My other aim is to incorporate political education onto the national curriculum for all young people in secondary education. After all, how can 18 year olds be expected to cast a justified vote if they don’t even know the basics of how our democratic system works?
What is your future career ambition?
In the future, I hope to combine my interests in politics with English, however, I have considered standing as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) or local councillor in later life.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
The public figure that I most admire is undoubtedly Rosa Parks, an often forgotten activist, who fought for equal rights for black and white people in America, and initiated the Bus Boycott. It is her sheer determination that earns her my respect and admiration.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
"There’s a radical – and wonderful – new idea here… that all children could and should be inventors of their own theories, critics of other people’s ideas, analysers of evidence, and makers of their own personal marks on the world. It’s an idea with revolutionary implications. If we take it seriously"
