Name: Joe White
Position: MYP
Constituency: Shropshire
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most passionate about the injustice in the UK at the moment. I am also passionate about the unfair stereotype towards young people and finding and improving our use of renewable energy. Also healthy eating and reducing poverty are key issues too.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Although Gun and Knife Crime came top in our manifesto, I feel that the main issue is the discrimination against young people due to the exaggerated stereotype people have, due mainly to the media. The fact that adults will cross the street to avoid young people is worrying as we can learn from them and they can learn from us.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
To make a change, that is why I was elected. To incorporate the ideas of the young people in Shropshire and to make the change they want and to show that their thoughts are important and they can make a difference.
What is your future career ambition?
I hope to take my Maths A2 when I start Year 12 in September along with AS Levels in Further Maths, Physics, English Language and History. In the long term, I would like to go to university and study law with the hope of becoming a barrister and maybe transfer into politics later in life.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Mahatma Ghandi, because he acted on what change he wanted and he spoke up for people. I think anyone who acts for their opinions is courageous and deserves admiration. People like Rosa Parks and Barack Obama who have stood up and asked for change and have succeeded really inspire me.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Young people are not just the hooded yobs you perceive them to be, they are the future and with the support of all generations we can advance and with the additional support of the media, who are often misleading in their views of young people, we can ensure that we learn from older generations and they can learn from us.
Additional comments:
Most people call me Joe, I am hard working and eat, sleep and breath UKYP! Oh and my favourite quote is, "Knowledge is knowing the tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting it in your fruit salad."
