Name: Adam Lonsdale
Position: MYP
Constituency: East Riding of Yorkshire
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most passionate about mental health. Within my area eating disorders have been quite bad, and other mental health issues are on the rise. I want to raise awareness of mental health issues, and let young people know that they are not alone. I am also very passionate about sex and relationships education, and transport.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
I feel that the biggest issue for young people in the East Riding is transport. With the wide diversity of parishes, and the size of the constituency as a whole, bus services can be very delayed, and not as frequent as other areas throughout the UK, or even Yorkshire and the Humber.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I want to achieve quite a lot to be honest. Firstly I would like to work towards the ongoing transport campaign, and try to introduce a transport concession card for my constituency. Secondly, I would like to work with the Mind Matters campaign and raise awareness on mental health, but specifically self harm and eating disorders. Finally, I would like to look at some kind of sex and relationships education curriculum for the schools in my constituency.
What is your future career ambition?
In the future I would like to progress into a mental health career, preferably as a psychotherapist, followed by a political route, becoming an MP, leader of a particular party, Prime minister, and then supreme overlord of the world. Actually, on second thoughts, just an MP.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Boris Johnson. Firstly we have an eerie resemblance, and secondly he is just awesome! I also admire my youth workers. They might not be in the public eye, but the work they do is shockingly impressive.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
It depends which part of the government really. I would like to send a message to the DCSF to tell them that Emotional Health and Wellbeing Education should be compulsory. I would like to send a message to the cabinet just to ask how it’s going. You know, spread my name so they know me when I join them.
Additional comments:
Thank you for taking the time to read this, if you have any ways you could help our mental health campaign, or any other work I am currently doing, then just contact the UKYP office. Also, if you want to meet up to discuss anything happening within the constituency of East Riding of Yorkshire you can contact them or the East Riding Youth Service.
