Project:Consider? Is a project by young people for young people about the impact of knife and gun crime in London.
This project arose out of a decision by young people from the London Region to hold a conference with the Metropolitan Police Service in August 2005.
The conference was designed to find out how young people felt about the police and what issues they had. It was called SPY - Safety, Police and Youth- and the young people that attended took part in workshops covering the following topics: Knives and Guns, Stop and Search and Safety and Youth. A full copy of the report is available on the 'SPY' page.
As an outcome of this conference the London Region wanted to tackle one of the issues that had been raised by the delegates. As a result Project:Consider? was conceived.
Members of UK Youth Parliament (MYPs) and Deputy Members of UK Youth Parliament (DMYPs), were trained in both filming and editing skills in order to undertake this piece of work to ensure that it was truly a young person lead project.
The film includes interviews with: young people that have been victims of knife or gun crime, young people that have carried weapons but were not caught, young people that have been convicted of weapon crime.
After beginning filming in April 2006 the film was completed on 2nd June, ready for a Pre-Screening on Thursday 13th July at the Victoria and Albert Museum during the London Manifesto Launch.
The official launch to young people will take place on Saturday 7th October at the SPY Conference 2006 - venue to be confirmed.
