Make sure your local council is listening to you!

The recent Local Transport Act encourages young people to be involved in the transport planning for their area- however, we don't think enough young people are being made aware of this!

What can you do?

Letter to my local transport councillor

Letter my local Director of Transport

At the Fares Fair Summit, young people from across the country shared ideas and learnt ways in which they can influence what is happening locally in their area, here are a few ideas you can put in your letter;

- To really get the views of young people you could conduct outreach work, go to schools, get young people involved in training and on interview panels.

- Lots of meetings in youth clubs already take place, as well as lots of outreach work. Use them to ask what young people want.
- Engage youth groups.

- You could consult with all schools on big decisions that affect that area.

- Include young people and parents as early as possible.
Attempt to bring all transport providers and stakeholders together.

- We need more conferences, like the Fares Fair Summit, with more people involved in transport to get together.

- Advertise in schools, colleges to get more young people involved.

- Set up complaint forums on facebook, etc so that young people in the area can raise issues.

- Work with young people to look into school transport arrangements. This could be part of a sustainable home to school strategy.
